Characteristics
The main difference between FPP and CPP comes when you need to reduce the speed. To reduce the speed on a FPP you need to slow the rotation.
The FPPs are designed in the most effective and best pitch.
The transverse thrust on ships with FPP may be stronger and more reliable than CPP.
Advantages (In Maneuvering)
There is no propeller "walk" when the ship is at the stopped position.
Normally when slowing down, the rudder will not be shielded like in CPP's ships.
Disadvantages (In Maneuvering)
The efficiency of astern condition in case of FPP is less than that of CPP in astern condition.
With FPP the ship's speed cannot be controlled accurately as with CPP.
Limited number of air starts when giving engine's orders.
Some FPP's ships are designed with high Dead Slow Ahead speed.
